Let There Be...Dessert!

Warnings: If you are craving sweets, this post will not help!

And so continues my disjointed, out of order recaps. :)

This was one of my absolute favorite parts of the wedding reception. There was a room just off the main ballroom that we closed off during dinner. Unbeknownst to our guests - this is where the dessert was hiding!

Check out this spread!

Some of you may remember all my dilemmas about the cake. I was so happy with how it turned out! Oh and my cake topper dilemma? Love how that turned out too!

We had a family friend make her famous brownies...

Grandma made her snickerdoodles...

Littlest Sister made her carrot cake cupcakes...

And when those doors finally opened, it seemed as though there was a collective gasp. Everyone was amazed! Including me - I hadn't seen the finished product until that moment. I couldn't have been happier (as you can tell from this cheesy smile photo). :)

WHOOHOOO! Look at all those desserts!!!! :)

Next up? The cake cutting...to smash or not to smash? :)

The Yummy Stuff

I probably mentioned somewhere along the way that I wanted to have a "Dessert Table" in addition to our cake. And you probably remember my difficulty trying to figure out what the cake should look like.

Everything turned out PERFECTLY.

We had a whole room set aside for desserts. The best part? It was closed off until it was time to cut the cake! Immediately after dinner, we walked toward the room, the doors were opened, and we (and our guests!) saw THIS:

I really think I heard a collective gasp. It was breathtaking. The cake? Absolutely everything I had imagined. We had cookies, carrot cake cupcakes, candy, brownies, chocolate covered peanut brittle, etc etc!

One of the best parts? We asked people close to us to make special desserts for us - such as my Grandma's snickerdoodles. Everyone loved this. It added such a personal touch!

There will be many more pictures of this to come, but I wanted to give you all the sneak peek.

Will you be doing anything special for dessert at your wedding?

To Top It All Off

I've had these pictures for a while, but couldn't find my dang camera cord. So here you are, a few days late!
As you'll recall, we couldn't decide whether or not we needed/wanted a cake topper. In the end, whenever I drew my cake design for people, it didn't look "right" until I drew on a cake topper. So I decided we needed one!

I went on Etsy and found this beauty. I'm hoping it's not too big for our little cake. I'm thinking it will look fabulous!

(It said not to take it out of the packing until we put it on the cake.)
What do you think?

This is How My Fiance Feels About Chocolate Cake

Whenever I ask him about our wedding cake, he just says - "I want it to be chocolate."

That's it.

I saw this photo today on Gresham Photography (friends from college by the way!) and about laughed out loud. Too cute. :)

Do We Really Need a Cake Topper?

I have been getting this question from my fiance since I started talking about the cake.

My initial reaction was, "Of course!"

But as we're getting closer, I wonder...do we really?

This is the current cake inspiration photo (done by Publix!)

But probably with some color on it...somewhere.

I was thinking about doing a cake topper like this:

At only $25, it's a steal!

At first I wanted little people. My fiance hated the little people. Not to mention it was nearly impossible to find one I liked, let alone one we both liked!

So I started thinking of doing a "C". I like this idea because we could pass it on to our sons (if we have any!) for their cake toppers. But my future daughter-in-laws may not even care or want it.

Or we could turn it into a Christmas ornament. But I already thought about doing that with the ring bearer's bowl.

And then I saw this photo on Weddingbee. I love this cake. And...no cake topper!

Hmmm. Maybe my fiance has the right idea.

So what do you think...cake topper or no cake topper?

Cakes are EXPENSIVE!

I have been putting off the cake planning part of the wedding - mostly because I thought I had it figured out. I just want a small tiered cake as our "wedding cake" and then other smaller cakes around it. How hard could that be?

Umm...

Not easy. My mom and I went to our local Publix on Sunday, since my fiance and I both LOVE Publix cakes and would love to have one as our wedding cake. I had budgeted $500 for the cake. Oh silly me.

To just get a big wedding cake to feed all our guests, it would cost $700. WHAT?? At Publix?? Clearly I have been disillusioned on how much cakes cost. My friend told me that her cake that fed 160 people cost her $800. Holy crap.

But I think I'm getting close to figuring it all out. If we do a three-tier cake from Publix, it will feed 100 people and cost about $300. Something like this (but with different decorations):

Then we can supplement that with a bunch of little cakes from Publix - which will be cheaper and add lots of fun variety. I mean, check out some of these fun cakes they can make for us!

These run about $20/each and serve 10-12 people. They are so beautiful and add so much variety! I'm really hoping this will all work out.

Did the cost of cakes suprise you? How are you handling the sticker shock?

Cakes AND Candy?

You all know by now that I would love to have a dessert table featuring several types of cakes.

Then I saw this yummy dessert bar by An Atlanta Bride today. *Swoon*.

What do you think...should our dessert table include some candy??

No Cake in the Face

This has become my fiance's mantra. I think at least once a day he looks at me, with a very serious look on his face and says, "No cake in the face."

I couldn't agree more. I would much rather have this:

My parents' wedding

Than this:

Alex & Ashley's wedding two weekends ago

Although the picture does make me laugh. She was SO not happy with him at that moment. Or the following moments when she was desperately trying to clean it off her face and out of her eyes.

How do you feel about cake in the face?

Anemone Obsession

By now you all know about my anemone obsession. I absolutely love how classy and elegant they look. You all also probably know that I am opting not to have a "traditional" wedding cake, but am choosing to go with a "dessert buffet" instead, with several small cakes.

But these beautiful cakes keep showing up in my cyber world. Mom keeps telling me we need to have a "theme" to our wedding. Could an anemone be a theme?

Cake Love

If I were to have a big fancy "wedding cake", I think I would have something like this. Exactly our colors!

But, as I've mentioned before, I'm thinking about doing a "dessert buffet". So instead of having a big cake like the one above, our "wedding cake" would be something smaller like this:

with a bunch of single layer cakes (on cakestands too!) around it. I love this idea - what do you think? Have you seen this done? Did you like it / not like it?
